Summary
Blue Bird Body Company (Blue Bird) is recalling certain 2023 Vision school buses. The incorrect pins were installed on the air stop arm, which may cause it to fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 131, “School Bus Pedestrian Safety Devices.”
Remedy
Dealers will install a service pigtail connector, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 8, 2022. Owners may contact Blue Bird’s customer service at 1-478-822-2242. Blue Bird’s number for this recall is R22BT.

FMVSS 131 Noncompliance – School Bus Pedestrian Safety Device
Models Affected: Certain 2022 & 2023 Model Year Blue Bird Vision/BBCV School Buses equipped with pneumatic stop/crossing arm feature(s)
Issue: The Stop/crossing arm air pressure regulator electrical connection is a 2 pin, male-female connector. The harness on units in question is mis-built with male pins installed in each connector half.
Corrective Action: Remove both sides of the two-pin connector and install a service jumper connector.
Chronology :
April 13, 2022: Blue Bird Field Service was contacted about an inoperative stop arm on unit F526263.
Diagnostics found both connector halves for the stop arm air regulator were of the same gender and making incomplete electrical connections. Review of the other like units on their property revealed the same condition. Field Service reviewed units in Production and discovered the same condition.
April 15, 2022: A Stop Ship was approved and containment of RFD units on property began.
April 21, 2022: Blue Bird’s harness supplier confirmed an April 15, 2022, harness production clean date, and daily reports are being generated for contained RFD units. The last unit(s) to escape with this condition left Fort Valley on April 12, 2022.
April 25, 2022: Blue Bird decided to issue a recall for this Noncompliance on April 25, 2022.
