Production Dates : MAR 20, 2020 – APR 28, 2022 VIN Range 1 : Begin : 1F66F5DN0L0A02298 End : 1F66F5DNXN0A02179 ✔ Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : The heat shield beneath the storage compartment and above the exhaust system needs to be extended to protect the storage compartment from the heat of the exhaust system. Without the extended heat shield the compartment may melt. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Without proper shielding from the exhuast system heat, the storage compartment may melt, increasing the risk of of a fire hazard. Description of the Cause : The heat shield designed by Jayco is not large enough to protect the storage compartment from the heat of the exhaust system. Ford Emissions Certification requires that the Final Stage Manufacturer is responsible for providing thermal protection (e.g. underbody heat shields) for any structure and equipment added to the Incomplete Vehicle. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : Vehicle owners may notice elevated heat in the storage compartment or melting of the compartment. AN INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED. April 11, 2022 the Warranty Incident Review Committee (WIRC) discussed this incident and elevated to the Corrective and Preventive Action Committee (CPAC). April 20, 2022 CPAC met to discuss this incident and elevated this incident to the Safety Steering Committee (SSC). On April 28, 2022 SSC met and voted that a safety recall was appropriate for this incident. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The heat shield will be extended by a Jayco dealer to provide adequate protection for the storage compartment from the heat of the exhaust system. Repairs made prior to the recall will be reimbursed in accordance with our Recall Reimbursement Plan on file with NHTSA. Jayco will notify affected retail owners and dealers. Jayco will file completion reports. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Units with the remedy will have an L-shaped extension added to the existing heat shield.
