Propane Regulator May Fail and Cause Fire – 2017-2020 Rich Specialty Trailers Sanitation, Movie, Office, & Bunk House Trailers

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL – June 6nd, 2022 This Notice Applies to Your Trailer- NHTSA Recall No. 22V-336 Dear Valued Owner: This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Kuntry Kustom RV, LLC dba Rich Specialty Trailers has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain model year 2017 to 2020 Rich Specialty Trailers, fifth wheels, or goosenecks built as a specialty trailer, restroom trailer, shower trailer, or movie star trailer. Certain Winntec model 6020 two-stage propane regulators installed on these vehicles may supply elevated, intermittent or low propane pressure to the appliances due to a second stage valve seat that can fail to regulate propane flow and pressure. An increase in propane pressure, could cause the flame of the appliance to become larger, and under certain rare circumstances, may ignite adjacent materials resulting in a fire. Appliances that can be affected by an excessive flame are the LP gas stovetop, LP gas oven, LP gas hot water heater, LP gas furnace and LP gas refrigerator. An increase in propane pressure would also cause the regulator to vent propane continuously through the pressure relief valve. In an enclosed area or under certain conditions, the vented propane could accumulate at the front of the specialty trailer and if ignited could result in a fire or explosion. Remedy consists of removing and replacing the propane regulator with a new regulator and performing standardized LP System Checks. The repair should take less than an hour to perform and this will be done at no labor or parts cost to the customer. Please see attached inspection and replacement procedures. Please submit photo of the regulator to our service department which can be done through email at [email protected] , making certain the date code is clearly visible. Once the regulator is confirmed as part of this recall a replacement regulator will be shipped to you within 5 working days at no charge to you. As soon as you receive the replacement please schedule the replacement at your local RV or trailer repair center. After replacement is complete please submit a photo of the new regulator installed along with the repair invoice to Rich Specialty Trailers. Replace the regulator and pigtails if the manufacturing date code stamped into the regulator is 2017, 2018 or 2019. The regulator year of manufacture can be recognized by the first two numbers. (example: “19” indicates manufactured in 2019) The second two numbers indicate the week of manufacture and not a relevant number for this recall. See figure below. 1. Close the LP bottles and unscrew the pigtails from the LP bottles. 2. Remove the regulator from the unit. 3. Attach the new regulator to the unit. 4. Connect pigtails to LP bottles. 5. Check fittings, regulator, and connections using approved LP leak detection methods. 6. Proceed with a Drop Pressure Test: a. Insert manometer into LP system. b. Turn on both LP tanks. c. Turn off both LP tanks. d. Bleed system down to 8” water column. e. System must hold 8” water column for a minimum of 3 minutes. 7. Ensure system operating pressure is at 11” (+-0.5) water column with 50% load and lockout pressure does not exceed 14” water column. Kuntry Kustom RV, LLC warranty does not cover loss of use of product by Buyer either during production time before delivery by Seller or in loss of use of product due to warranty repairs necessary for operation of product. Additionally, the warranty does not cover Buyers extra expenses such as transportation to and from service center or manufacturing plant location, inconvenience, commercial loss, towing charges, bus fares, vehicle rental, charges such as telephone calls or lodging bills, or other incidental or consequential damages.
