If a noncompliance, provide the applicable FMVSS: 121 and 136 Describe the safety risk: DTNA is not aware of any incidents where the deactivation feature has been employed. Deactivation of ABS and ESC could lead to loss of braking capability which may lead to an increase crash risk. Identify any warning, which can precede or occur: The ABS & ESC lamps are illuminated in the dash, alerting the operator, and providing time for a driver to bring the vehicle to a stop. On or about May 5, 2022, DTNA became aware that vehicles subject to recall 22V-101, as well as a limited number of other, similar vehicles, were equipped with a feature that, if engaged, would deactivate electronic features of the braking and stability control systems, including ABS and ESC. While 22V-101 is, and was at all relevant times, adequate, DTNA promptly began an investigation into the feature to assess potential compliance issues. On May 10, 2022, DTNA determined that a non-compliance existed and decided to conduct a voluntary non-compliance recall campaign for this very specific group of vehicles to remove the deactivation feature. As of today, DTNA is not aware of any incidents that resulted in the feature being used. Identify the Remedy Describe the defect/noncompliance remedy program, including the manufacture’s plan for reimbursement. The feature will be removed from the vehicles. Daimler Truck North America shall be offering a refund for owner-paid repairs covered by this recall if the repair was performed prior to the date indicated in the reimbursement plan, which will be posted with owner’s notification letter. The owner is directed to seek reimbursement through authorized dealers. Daimler Truck North America LLC (DTNA), on behalf of its Freightliner Trucks Division, has decided that certain 2022 Freightliner Cascadia vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 121 “Air Brake Systems” and No. 136 “Electronic Stability Control Systems on Heavy Vehicles.” The antilock brakes (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) may be manually deactivated. Deactivated ABS and ESC could lead to loss of braking or stability control, which may increase the risk of a crash. This is the first of two notices you will receive regarding this subject. This letter is to inform you of an upcoming Recall to correct the issue noted above. Daimler Truck is currently working on a solution. There is no action for you to take at this time. The second notice will inform you when the final remedy is available. When you receive the second notice, please contact your authorized Daimler Truck North America repair facility to schedule the free repair for your vehicle.
