Daimler Trucks
North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2022 Freightliner
Cascadia vehicles. The antilock brakes (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) may be manually disabled. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 121, “Air Brake Systems,” and 136, “Electronic Stability Control Systems on Heavy Vehicles.”
Remedy
Dealers will correct this feature, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 6, 2022. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA’s number for this recall is FL-932.

DTNA has tracked all of the vehicles in this limited population and knows with certainty that none of the vehicles remain in the hands of a dealership. Due to the limited population subject to the recall, DTNA will work with the lone customer to get the vehicles repaired. Therefore, no dealership letter is needed in this unique case.
Chronology :
On or about May 5, 2022, DTNA became aware that vehicles subject to recall 22V-101, as well as a limited number of other, similar vehicles, were equipped with a feature that, if engaged, would deactivate electronic features of the braking and stability control systems, including ABS and ESC. While 22V-101 is, and was at all relevant times, adequate, DTNA promptly began an investigation into the feature to assess potential compliance issues. On May 10, 2022, DTNA determined that a non-compliance existed and decided to conduct a voluntary non-compliance recall campaign for this very specific group of vehicles to remove the deactivation feature. As of today, DTNA is not aware of any incidents that resulted in the feature being used. June 6, 2022, DTNA amended the Defect Information Report with supplier identification, component manufacturer, best-known population and component details.

The second notice will inform you when the final remedy is available. While 22V-101 is, and was at all relevant times, adequate, DTNA promptly began an investigation into the feature to assess potential compliance issues. On May 10, 2022, DTNA determined that a non-compliance existed and decided to conduct a voluntary non-compliance recall campaign for this very specific group of vehicles to remove the deactivation feature. As of today, DTNA is not aware of any incidents that resulted in the feature being used. June 6, 2022, DTNA amended the Defect Information Report with supplier identification, component manufacturer, best-known population and component details. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The feature that disables brake and ESC will be removed. Daimler Truck North America shall be offering a refund for owner-paid repairs covered by this recall if the repair was performed prior to the date indicated in the reimbursement plan, which will be posted with owner’s notification letter. The owner is directed to seek reimbursement through authorized dealers.
