Ox Bodies, Inc. has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain replacement rear hinges outsourced from an outside supplier and used in the manufacture of Ox Bodies vehicles from June 2019 through August 2021. Our records indicate that your vehicle (identified by VIN above) may be affected. We are initiating a safety recall to address this condition. REASON FOR RECALL It has come to our attention that the rear hinge outsourced during this time and used to install the dump body to the truck frame has a potential weld defect. Should the rear hinge assembly weld fail, the body could detach and/or cause the truck to become unstable, increasing the risk of property damage, a vehicle crash without warning, and/or personal injury or death. As a result, dump bodies manufactured with this outsourced rear hinge will need to be inspected and repaired to resolve this issue. WHAT WE WILL DO Ox Bodies will repair and reinforce the hinge free of charge. The repair will take approximately two hours to complete. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO Please contact Ox Bodies (see contact information below) as soon as possible to arrange a service date to have the rear hinge assembly repaired. Ox Bodies will arrange for the repair of your vehicle without charge upon being contacted. These failures appeared to be the result of poor welds/weld penetration similar to conditions Ox Bodies had previously observed. (Ox Bodies’ supplier made process improvements in October/November 2020.) A review of warranty data identified 12 prior warranty claims received from March 2020 – November 2021 related to the rear hinge assembly. April – May 20, 2022: Field and warranty data were analyzed, and the potential safety risk(s) of a failed hinge was evaluated and considered. May 20, 2022: Based upon its evaluation of the existing data and consideration of potential safety risks, Ox Bodies decided to conduct a safety recall to repair the welds on the hinge assemblies on the subject vehicles/ bodies. These failures appeared to be the result of poor welds/weld penetration similar to conditions Ox Bodies had previously observed. (Ox Bodies’ supplier made process improvements in October/November 2020.) April – May 20, 2022: Field and warranty data were analyzed, and the potential safety risk(s) of a failed hinge was evaluated and considered. May 20, 2022: Based upon its evaluation of the existing data and consideration of potential safety risks, Ox Bodies decided to conduct a safety recall to repair the welds on the hinge assemblies on the subject vehicles/ bodies. To date, no injuries have been reported related to this condition. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The weld of the subject rear hinge assemblies will be repaired. Owners will be advised to contact Ox Bodies to arrange to have the repair performed. Ox Bodies will submit a recall-specific reimbursement plan. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The weld of the subject rear hinge assemblies will be repaired. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : After August 1, 2021, Ox Bodies used rear hinge assemblies manufactured in-house by Ox Bodies.
