Date OEM Name Street City, State, Zip 22E021 This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Highway Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act RE: NHTSA RECALL 22E021 for Dometic CE99-ZF and PI8022 Series COOKTOPS Dear __________, Dometic Corporation has determined that a potential safety-related defect exists with respect to the CE99-ZF and PI8022 series COOKTOPS manufactured between August 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021. Our records indicate that some of the product, (“cooktops”), listed below were purchased by your company and may either be in your inventory or have been installed in a RV that your company sells. Dometic Corporation apologizes for the inconvenience that this places on your business and the requirement that you now have, per Title 49; Subtitle B; Chapter V; Part 573; §573.11. § 573.11 Prohibition on sale or lease of new defective and noncompliant motor vehicles and items of replacement equipment. (a) If notification is required by an order under 49 U.S.C. 30118(b) or is required under 49 U.S.C. 30118(c) and the manufacturer has provided to a dealer (including retailers of motor vehicle equipment) notification about a new motor vehicle or new item of replacement equipment in the dealer’s possession, including actual and constructive possession, at the time of notification that contains a defect related to motor vehicle safety or does not comply with an applicable motor vehicle safety standard issued under 49 CFR part 571, the dealer may sell or lease the motor vehicle or item of replacement equipment only if: (1) The defect or noncompliance is remedied as required by 49 U.S.C. 30120 before delivery under the sale or lease; or (2) When the notification is required by an order under 49 U.S.C. 30118(b), enforcement of the order is restrained or the order is set aside in a civil action to which 49 U.S.C. 30121(d) applies. (b) Paragraph (a) of this section does not prohibit a dealer from offering the vehicle or equipment for sale or lease, provided that the dealer does not sell or lease it. Please note that as of this notice it is unlawful for you to sell a product that is installed, but not sold or is in your inventory before it has had the remedy applied. Dometic Corporation is advising you to locate ALL the following models of recreational vehicle cooktops and quarantine those that have not been installed in a RV or that are still in your inventory. Furthermore, you will need to collect model, serial number, and VIN number of ALL RV’s that have been shipped with these model cooktops (corresponding to the serial numbers listed below) installed and provide that list to Dometic Corporation as early as possible. The following models with their respective serial number ranges may be in your inventory. • CE99-ZF: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover o 02093610034000001 – 02093610034000600 o 11993610034000001 – 11993610034000510 o 12593610034000001 – 12593610034000500 • PI8022: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover o 11093610034600001 – 11093610034600550 o 12393610034600001 – 12393610034600550 Dometic Corporation will provide full replacement cooktops as the remedy for this recall. The remedy kit will include instructions, a replacement unit, a mandatory recall response card (to be filled out at the time of the repair), and specific requirements that an authorized service center must install the remedy free of charge to the end use customer. All remedy installations at the dealer or service center will require that the recall response card be filled out and returned to Dometic Corporation when the remedy is completed. The recall response card is an essential requirement to protect both the dealer or service center and Dometic Corporation in the record keeping and reporting of the recall remedy process to NHTSA. The Problem: The user of a recreational vehicle or marine vessel may become aware of the potential safety-related defect during operation of the cooktop. The burner control valve, mated directly to the control knob via the valve stem, may leak gas. This gas will leak directly into the recessed portion of the cooktop, where the knobs and ignitor are located, and may be ignited by the active burner(s). The ignition will result in a small pilot flame directly at the control knob. What Dometic Corporation Will Do: Dometic Corporation is aggressively approaching all OEM’s, Dealers, Retailers, and End Users with certified letters (for which they must sign), defining the product, models, population, and direction on action to be taken. The remedy will consist of 1) instructions to locate the cooktop serial number 2) Recall Response Card to be filled out and returned to receive the replacement unit. Again, Dometic Corporation is supplying this recall remedy at no charge. RE: BODY SERIAL CHASSIS SERIAL Dear Owner: This notice is being sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Our records indicate that you have purchased a vehicle with the serial number which appears above. REASON FOR THIS RECALL Winnebago has decided that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists on certain 2022 Era motorhomes. These motor homes were manufactured May 26, 2021 through April 27, 2022. The burner control valve, mated directly to the control knob via the valve stem, may leak gas. This gas will leak directly into the recessed portion of the cooktop, where the knobs and ignitor are located, and may be ignited by the active burner(s). The ignition will result in a small pilot flame directly at the control knob which could result in a fire or injury. WHAT WE WILL DO Winnebago is working with Dometic to provide you a new replacement range if your cooktop is defective. Should you need a new cooktop it will replaced and installed be at no charge to you. This repair will take approximately 1.5 hours WHAT YOU SHOULD DO Do not use the cooktop until your cooktop has been remedied in accordance with this recall. To determine if your cooktop is defective, find the CE99-ZF model number and serial number by locating the nameplate on the unit, underneath the cooktop. Label should be visible by opening the galley door and looking up at the bottom of the cooktop. See the two photos below. If your label looks like the photo on the left you will need to check model and serial label (model and S/N are in the area of the red boxes shown on the photo). Note if you feel uncomfortable doing this you can contact your Winnebago dealer and they will set up an appointment to verify the model and serial number of your cook top. • If the S/N is not in the range shown below, please write the model and serial number on the enclosed postcard and mail it back to us. You are done and free to use your cooktop. • If your label shows a model other than CE99-ZF like the photo on the right please note that model number on the enclosed postcard and mail it back to us. You are done and free to use your cooktop. • If the S/N falls within the range of numbers listed below you will need to fill in the post card and mail it back to us. The remedy replacement unit will be sent with instructions to complete the installation and functional verification at no cost to the end user by a qualified RV technician. Reimbursement to the qualified RV technician will be provided once Dometic Corporation receives the recall response card and recalled unit documenting that the replacement has been made. Units still in inventory at RV OEM’s and dealers will be replaced at no charge with like units.
