Summary
Milwaukee Performance Helmets (Milwaukee Helmets) is recalling certain size large model MPH9720DOT and size small model MPH9721DOT helmets. The helmets may lack proper retention system integrity, penetration protection, and labels. As such, these helmets fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.”
Remedy
Milwaukee Helmets will offer a refund of the purchase price. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 9, 2022. Owners may contact Milwaukee Helmets customer service at 1-800-990-7423 or Helmet[email protected].

Dear Helmet Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Milwaukee Helmets has decided that certain sizes of MPH9721DOT size SMALL and MPH9720DOT size LARGE produced after Jan 2019 has failed to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No, 218, Motorcycle Helmets: Note This recall only affects the above-mentioned sizes.
WHY DOES MY HELMET NEED REPLACING/REFUND?
During routine testing a defect in the manufacture of the MPH9721DOT size SMALL and MPH9720DOT size LARGE helmets was detected. The defect allowed a sharp object to penetrate the rigid protective outer shell and or having the retention system fail under continued force during a random sample test performed by a NHTSA independent lab.
SAFETY RISK:
During a crash the motorcycle rider or passenger could experience a head injury that might range from insignificant to extreme, including the possibility of death.
REMEDY:
If you own a MPH9721DOT size SMALL and/or MPH9720DOT size LARGE motorcycle helmet purchased after the date of 03/10/2019, please provide the receipt of your purchase and a photo of the helmet with the retention strap cut off and the manufacturer will make a complete refund of the purchase price. There is no need for you to return the helmet. Just cut off the strap send us a photo as proof and then discard the helmet.

Noncompliance :
Helmet failed the Retention System Outlined in the FMVSS-218: (a) The
retention system on the low temperature, high temperature and water
immersed samples separated while loaded.
Helmet Failed the Labeling Failures Outlined in the FMVSS-218; The helmets
failed the labeling requirements because they were not labeled with the
following information:
Helmet Failed the impact attenuation Failures Outlined in the FMVSS-218;
FMVSS 1 : 218 – Motorcycle helmets
FMVSS 2 : NR
Description of the Safety Risk : Any other helmets that are part of the recall population carry the risk of
serious head injury
Description of the Cause : In the case of the labeling failure, the cause was a missed update to the labeling
requirements of FMVSS-218.
In the case of the retention system failure there is uncertainty as to why the
sample helmet failed in the contract lab, but never before during a large
number of production batch tests performed in strict accord with FMVSS-218.
In the case of the Retention failure the fabricating manufacturer can only
assume that the retention system was not placed properly by the workshop
that was reponsible for manufacturing it in Early 2019.
In the case of the Impact Attenuation failure we do not know as to why the
sample helmet failed in the contract lab, but never before during a large
number of production batch tests performed in strict accord with FMVSS-218.
In the case of the Imapct failure. The manufacturer can only assume that the
Shell of the helmet had a previous un known defect during manufacturing it in
Early 2019.
In an abundance of caution, we are proposing to recall all helmets
manufactured after that date.

Description of Remedy Program : there are only 3 defects:
1. is the label test failed where the manufacturer has not filed the Part 566
with NHTSA
2. The helmets tested failed the retention integrity test under load.
3. The Helmet tested failed the Impact Attinuation on 2.1 ms at 200g
As a remedy we will offer full refund to each end-user of their purchase
price and collection of the offending helmets.

from Recalled Component :
There will be no remedy equipment. The recalled helmet is a unique use
helmet for which no other models are made.

The recall condition will not be corrected. Instead the importer has
chosen to no longer offer this category of helmet for sale.
