Involved Components : Component Name 1 : NR Component Description : NR Component Part Number : NR Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : Dometic Corporation Address : 5155 Verdant Dr. Elkhart Indiana 46516 Country : United States Chronology : Dometic Corporation was made aware during the second week of March 2022 of seven separate complaints regarding certain products distributed in Europe by a Dometic Group Affiliate. The subject European products were cooktops that exhibited gas leaks behind the burner control knob. The cooktops distributed in Europe are different from the cooktops offered in the US, however the burner control valves of certain cooktops sold by Dometic Corporation in the US are substantially similar. Globally, no injuries or deaths related to burner control valves have been reported to date. In the US, no field incidents of gas leaks or injuries have occurred to date from any burner control valves in cooktops units sold by Dometic Corporation. Dometic Corporation has placed a hold for stock on hand and a hold on shipments of cooktops that contain the potential safety-related defect at the burner control valve while they investigate inventory as well as all field information available regarding these burner control components. As of March 30, 2022, the know model numbers affected are listed below: – CE99-ZF: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover – PI8022: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover Dalton Enterprises received notifications from NHTSA and Dometic second week of May. Model CE99-ZF being the only purchase model. Official Defect Notification to NHTSA was filed June 1st in accordance with CFR 49, Subtitle B, Chapter V, Part 573, Clause 573.6 and the 5-day reporting requirement. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-390 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Remedy will be made by replacement/exchange with newer cooktops that are not within the recall population. Remedy replacement will be completed at no cost to the end user. The user will indicate that they have an affected cooktop and supply the serial number information to Dalton/ Dometic. The remedy replacement unit will be sent with instructions to complete the installation and functional verification at no cost to the end user by a qualified RV technician. Reimbursement to the qualified RV technician will be provided one Dometic receives the recall response card and recalled unit documenting that the replacement has been made. Dalton has verbally contacted and emailed all but one unit owner that was in our facility. Dometic was given a list of effected Dalton units. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The replacement/exchange unit will have a completely different serial number outside of the recall population that will not have the defective burner control valve. The units will be visually the same to the end user. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Burner control valves from the supplier are no longer in use at the manufacturing site. The supplier only provided a limited production run because of production volume challenges. The factory corrective action was put in place on or about the time of the potential defect notification to NHTSA.
