Unfortunately, we have been served a recall notice from Dometic for their P18022 Model Stoves that may be affected 2021 and 2022 Expedition 2.0 and Pando 2.0 camping trailers. The Problem: The user of a recreational vehicle or marine vessel may become aware of the potential safety-related defect during operation of the cooktop. The burner control valve, mated directly to the control knob via the valve stem, may leak gas. This gas will leak directly into the recessed portion of the cooktop, where the knobs and ignitor are located, and may be ignited by the active burner(s). The ignition will result in a small pilot flame directly at the control knob. The Risk: There is an increased risk of injury and fire. Affected Units: The recall population consists of cooktop models PI8022 with the affected serial numbers (S/N) indicated below. • PI8022: Cooktop with two burners and safety glass cover o S/N ranges: 11093610034600001 – 11093610034600550 o S/N ranges: 12393610034600001 – 12393610034600550 IF YOU OWN ONE OF THE UNITS SHOWN ABOVE, YOU MUST IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE GAS OFF AT THE RV LP TANK REGULATOR. THEREAFTER, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE LP GAS WITHIN THE RV UNTIL THE COOKTOP HAS BEEN REMEDIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS RECALL. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THESE COOKTOPS ON YOUR OWN. ANY REPAIR OR REMEDY SHOULD BE PERFORMED BY A DOMETIC-QUALIFIED SERVICE TECHNICIAN. In order to confirm if your specific stove is involved in the recall you will have to remove your stove to check the serial number on the sticker affixed to the bottom. In this video we provide detailed instructions to remove the stove as well as check the serial number to ensure your specific trailer is not effected by the recall. The remedy for an affected unit will be a complete replacement of the cooktop. The Dometic Authorized Service Center will install the remedy for you. We received a recall notice 22E-021 which described the defect as follows: The affected Dometic products which may contain the potential safety-related defect are recreational vehicle type cooktops containing specific burner control valves. These RV cooktops were manufactured between late 2020 and June 2021. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Part573 Safety Recall Report 22E-021 describes the safety risk as follows: There is an increased risk of fire and injury. The detailed description of the potential safety-related defect is associated with the burner contol valve where the valve stem is located directly behind the cooking knob of the cooktops. There is a potential for the gas leak behind the control knob to ingnite and create a small pilot flame and present a possibility of a burn to the user Description of the Cause : Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22E-021 states the cause as follows The burner control valve may have incurred abrasions, internally or externally, on the mating metal sealing surfaces of the burner control valve that may have led to leaks. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Remedy will be made by replacement/exchange with newer cooktops that are not within the recall population. Remedy replacement will be completed at no cost to the end user. The user will indicate that they have an affected cooktop and supply the serial number information to Dometic Corporation. The remedy replacement unit will be sent with instructions to complete the installation and functional verification at no cost to the end user by a qualified RV technician. Reimbursement to the qualified RV technician will be provided once Dometic Corporation receives the recall response card and recalled unit documenting that the replacement has been made Units still in inventory at RV OEM’s and dealers will be replaced at no charge with like units How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The replacement/exchange unit will have a completely different serial number outside of the recall population that will not have the defective burner control valve.
