Peterbilt has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle non-compliance exists in certain 2020 through 2023 Model Year, 536 and 537 chassis built from 11/4/2022 through 1/7/2022. ABS telltale does not illuminate in the digital display during self-test, and does not indicate to the operator any malfunction of the ABS has occurred. This is non-compliant with US regulation FMVSS 105. What is the problem? ABS telltale does not illuminate in the digital display during self-test. What will your dealer do? When the repair procedure and software are available, your dealer will reprogram the affected modules. What should you do? There is no action required on your part at this time. You will receive a letter notifying you when the repair procedure and software are available. Peterbilt Motors Company has initiated this recall to remedy the issue with no charge to you. Currently, the repair procedure is unavailable to correct this condition. However, Peterbilt is required to notify customers of the existence of the identified safety defect. You will be notified by mail when the repair procedure and software become available. On certain vehicles, the ABS telltale is not enabled and will not illuminate during self-test or any ABS malfunction. These vehicles do not comply with US regulation FMVSS 105 or Canadian regulation CMVSS 105, which require an indicator lamp for antilock brake system malfunction. Unknowingly operating a vehicle with inoperative ABS may increase the risk of a crash. Revision Condition / Chief Complaint ABS Telltale / Warning message on digital dash does not illuminate during self-test. If the unit is released back into service without performing the repair, make sure to also release the Campaign in Service Management. • If you are not using Service Management to start repair orders, review SIR for “Complete” or “In Process” next to the “22PBC” campaign code prior to performing this repair. • Follow the procedures to re-enable the ABS telltale. This is noncompliant with FMVSS 105, which requires an indicator lamp for antilock brake system malfunction. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Paccar will notify customers and dealers, and will complete a software update to correct the parameter setting. This will enable the ABS telltale to function properly per regulatory requirements. Owners who incurred costs to obtain a remedy for the problem addressed by the recall in advance of receiving notification may seek reimbursement through the process outlined in the general reimbursement plan on file. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Vehicles with the remedy will show the ABS telltale parameter as enabled. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Engineering documentation has been updated to ensure the ABS telltale is enabled on vehicles with hydraulic brakes and ABS.
