) is recalling certain 2022 Kenworth
T180 and 2023 Kenworth
T280 and Peterbilt
535 vehicles. The ABS telltale was not enabled on certain vehicles, and will not illuminate even during an ABS malfunction. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 105, “Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems.”
Remedy
Dealers will perform a complete software update to correct the parameter setting, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 9, 2022. Owners may contact PACCAR

Plant identifies one vehicle which does not have the ABS telltale enabled. Engineering begins to investigate, and identifies the issue is isolated to vehicles with hydraulic brakes, which use different parameter settings. All vehicles at Paccar
Plants held for corrective action. Investigation opened.
03-15-2022: Permanent corrective action implemented. Investigation continues.
04-11-2022: Affected population updated and under review.
06-08-2022: Investigation summarized and affected population firmed.
06-09-2022: Safety committee meeting held. The committee concurs that a safety related noncompliance exists and the affected population shall be recalled.

ABS telltale does not illuminate in the digital display during self-test, and does not indicate to the operator any malfunction of the ABS has occurred. This is noncompliant with FMVSS 105, which requires an indicator lamp for antilock brake system malfunction. FMVSS 1 : 105 – Hydraulic and electric brake systems FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : On affected vehicles, the driver may not be informed of a malfunction of the ABS system. This may increase the risk of a crash. Description of the Cause : The parameter which enables the ABS telltale was inadvertently disabled. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : The driver may notice that the ABS telltale is not briefly illuminated when the key is turned on. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Paccar will notify customers and dealers, and will complete a software update to correct the parameter setting. This will enable the ABS telltale to function properly per regulatory requirements. Owners who incurred costs to obtain a remedy for the problem addressed by the recall in advance of receiving notification may seek reimbursement through the process outlined in the general reimbursement plan on file. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Vehicles with the remedy will show the ABS telltale parameter as enabled. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Engineering documentation has been updated to ensure the ABS telltale is enabled on vehicles with hydraulic brakes and ABS. All vehicles manufactured on or after January 14, 2022 have the ABS telltale enabled. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Customers will be notified within 60 days.
