REASON FOR THIS RECALL Kaufman Trailers of NC, Inc. has determined that a defect, which relates to trailer safety, exists in certain 2018 – 2021 Kaufman Trailer 25,000 GVWR Deluxe Tandem Dual Gooseneck Dump Trailers – 20’ x 90”. These are Model numbers: FX-10K-20D & FX-10K-20D-SC. On most of these models, the angle ramp track at the rear of the trailer that holds the lip of the aluminum ramps (once installed) is not properly braced (see pictures below). The improper bracing could cause the welds to break on the angle ramp track causing immediate collapse of the ramps while loading/unloading equipment utilizing the aluminum ramps. This could cause injury or death to any person(s) that is behind or near the rear of the trailer or to the operator of the equipment being loaded/unloaded. WHAT WE WILL DO Kaufman Trailers of NC, Inc. will provide two (2) end brace caps to be welded at the ends of the angle ramp track as well as one (1) center support gusset to be welded inside the angle ramp track at the center of the trailer rear. When the braces are installed correctly, this will prevent the angle ramp track welds from breaking. In some cases, additional welding may be needed for further reinforcement as show in the attached picture. Replacement bracing will be installed free of charge at any Kaufman Trailer facility or can be installed by you providing the attached installation procedure is closely followed. Kaufman Trailers of NC, Inc. has assessed the repair to take no more than 30 minutes to complete. If you are unable to bring your trailer to any Kaufman facility, please contact the number below for other options. Kaufman Trailers of NC, Inc. will authorize a payment in the amount of $60 for the labor to properly weld in the required bracing and paint touch up. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO Verify you own the trailer with the specific VIN listed at the top of this page. If so, a visual inspection of the rear of the trailer, specifically the angle ramp track, against the below pictures will verify if you need to install the proper bracing. If the angle ramp track appears defective, as illustrated in the photos below, you should immediately cease use of the aluminum ramps in your 25,000 GVWR Deluxe Tandem Dual Gooseneck Dump Trailer – 20’ x 90” for the purpose of loading/unloading equipment.
