Alexis Fire Equipment Company (Alexis Fire) is recalling certain 2022 Emergency Utility, Flatbed Brush, and 300 Gallon Mini
Pumper Fire Apparatus vehicles, equipped with a Warn Winch and a wireless handheld remote. Water may enter the handheld remote control for the winch and cause circuit board corrosion, which can allow the winch to operate unintentionally.
Remedy
Alexis Fire will work with Warn Industries, Inc. to provide owners instructions on how to inspect the remote for corrosion and disable the wireless function by removing the battery pack from the remote. If corrosion or water intrusion is found when removing the battery pack owners should stop using the remote and contact WARN customer service for a replacement remote, free of charge. Once new parts are available, WARN will make a replacement water resistant remote available, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 5, 2023. Owners may contact Alexis Fire customer service at 1-309-482-6121.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Alexis Fire Equipment has decided, based on information provided by Warn Industries, that a defect exists certain 2022 Emergency Utility, Flatbed Brush, an 300 Gallon Mini Pumper Fire Apparatus vehicles equipped with a handheld remote control operated WARN VR EVO winch.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
After investigating field reports of inadvertent activation, Warn determined that getting the remote control wet could result in water ingress and corrosion inside the remote control. This condition could lead to inadvertent activation. It was determined that this condition only affects remote controls with wireless capability that are not waterproof. Only the remote is subject to the recall, the winch is not affected.
CONSEQUENCE:
Remotes which have been exposed to or submerged in water have exhibited failures that can result in unintended winch operation, which increases the risk of injury.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
WARN has issued specific instructions on how to immediately inspect, replace your existing VR EVO remote with a “corded-only” remote, and submit a claim for a $100 coupon as well as a new water-resistant remote control that will be made available to affected customers once released. Please see the attached document directly from WARN Industries Inc.

enclosed directions to disable and remove the battery system from their
remote and going direct wire, customers will upload the photos to the
WARN website, WARN will process the $100.00 coupon and then send out
a new remote at no charge once it is available to the impacted customers.

The initial remedy involved removing the battery pack which is the failing
component from the remote. The secondary remedy being issued by
WARN will involve shipping a new water resistant designed remote.
