Under certain conditions, this damage may provide an unintended leak in the rear NC valves, resulting in a longer brake pedal travel. For vehicles with Auto Vehicle Hold feature, the vehicle may creep unexpectedly after an auto hold event is initiated. In December 2022, Continental notified its customers of the issue observed with this component. On January 23, 2023, Ford Motor Company filed a 573 Defect Report identifying a defect in the EBS Module. On April 18, 2023, Mazda North American Operations filed a 573 Defect Report identifying a defect in the EBS Module. Continental Automotive Systems, Inc. is providing this notification in accordance with its obligations as a component part manufacturer under Part 573.3(f) to identify other vehicle manufacturers who may be impacted by Ford’s and Mazda’s defect determinations. Although Continental has identified Kia Motors America as a Purchaser, Continental supplied only one affected EBS Module to Kia, which Kia contained prior to sale in the US market. For vehicles with Auto Vehicle Hold feature, the vehicle may creep unexpectedly after an auto hold event is initiated. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : An increased brake pedal travel length while stopping the vehicle may cause of feeling of reduced braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash. For vehicles with Auto Vehicle Hold feature, the vehicle may creep unexpectedly after an auto hold event is initiated. Description of the Cause : Due to a foreign object, a NC valve in certain EBS modules may have been damaged.
