, Inc. (Mack
) is recalling certain 2023-2024 LR garbage trucks. The wiper arm retention nuts may be loose, stripping, and causing the windshield wipers to fail.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect, tighten the retention nuts, and replace the windshield wiper arms as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 25, 2023. Owners may contact Mack
customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack

Description
Insufficient torque between the splines on the wiper output shafts to the wiper arms. The wiper arms could strip out resulting in loss of wiper functionality. Inoperative wipers increases the risk of a crash.
There have been no warranty claims, field reports or service reports associated with this issue.
The windshield wiper arms will be inspected for damage and the arm retention nut will be torqued to the correct specification.

Dealer Responsibilities
- The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act require dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
- Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.

Manufacturing reports failures in the factory of the wiper arm to motor shaft connection to the Product Safety Working Group. June 19, 2023, Product Safety Working Group opens an investigation and after review recommends that this be brought to Product Safety Committee as a potential safety defect. June 27, 2023, Product Safety Committee meets and decides that a product safety defect exists. July 3 , 2023 573 Report filed with NHTSA. There have been no warranty claims, field reports or service reports associated with this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The windshield wiper arms will be inspected for damage and the arm retention nut will be torqued to the correct specification. Reimbursement for the recall will be covered by Manufacturer’s Reimbursement Plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The correct torque ensures that the spline engagement between the motor shaft output splines and the wiper arm is sufficiently engaged.
