There are 611 MV series trucks in the suspect population. There are 13 HV series trucks in the suspect population. Production Dates : AUG 19, 2022 – SEP 27, 2022 VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : As reported in Dana Incorporated (Dana) recall 23E052, due to the supplier’s use of nonconforming material in its production processes, the specified driveshafts do not meet specification and can break in certain high loading conditions. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : As reported in Dana recall 23E052, in the event a driveshaft breaks, it can separate from the vehicle, which could increase the risk of a crash. Description of the Cause : As reported in Dana recall 23E052, due to an error in the supplier’s production processes, nonconforming material was used to manufacture the specified driveshafts. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : None Involved Components : Component Name 1 : Prop Shaft Component Description : Short coupled driveshaft Component Part Number : 410LTB1120 and 410LTB1280 Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-587 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : Dana Incorporated Address : 3939 Technology Drive Maumee Ohio 43537 Country : United States Chronology : • 05/24/2023 – Navistar Compliance, Service Engineering, and R&D Engineering meet with Dana to discuss recent driveshaft failure reported in a Field Service Report. • 06/08/2023 – Navistar ships failed part to Dana for part analysis. • 07/20/2023 – Dana informs Navistar they have submitted 23E-052 on 7/10/2023. • 07/25/2023 through 08/09/2023 – Navistar and Dana meet to determine the impact to International trucks and finalize the suspect population. • 08/10/2023 – Navistar declares a Safety Recall. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : • The remedy will involve replacing the suspect drive shafts. • Navistar’s plan for reimbursement of pre-notification remedies, on file with NHTSA and dated 05/06/2022, applies and reimbursement instructions will be included in the customer notification. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy driveshafts are manufactured with conforming material where the recalled drive shafts were not. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : 07/18/2022 – Navistar manufacturing began use of SPL100 drivelines manufactured with conforming material.
