These units are built with a 12-gauge wire installed for future air conditioner installation. Production Dates : JAN 01, 2021 – JAN 05, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : 1SMG4DD26MJ204885 End : 1SMG4DD25PJ20846 Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : The Basecamp trailers manufactured without the roof mounted air conditioner installed, has a 12 gauge wire is run for future air conditioner installation. Code requires this wire to be capped and terminated inside of a junction box. This wire was capped using a Wago connector but not terminated inside of a junction box. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If the air conditioner “prep wire” were to separate from the Wago connector, there is a potential of a “hot skin” scenario. This increases the risk of personal injury and/or property damage. Description of the Cause : A personal change occurred and this requirement was not properly communicated. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : None Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-614 Page 2 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Involved Components : Component Name 1 : Junction Box Component Description : Junction Device, Self Contained Component Part Number : 512025-01 Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : NR Address : NR NR Country : NR Chronology : 8/23/2023 – Airstream identifies the “prep wire” defect during an audit. 8/24/2023 – Airstream begins an investigation. 8/25/2023 – The origin for this defect is determined. 8/28/2023 – The safety committee meets and reviews all known data and determines a recall is warranted. Airstream is unaware of any warranty or injury claims due to this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Dealers will be instructed to remove the wire from the circuit breaker and power converter. This will be done at no cost to the owner. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Any Basecamp trailer manufactured without the roof mounted air conditioner installed after 8/24/2023 has the “prep wire” properly capped and terminated inside of a junction box. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The condition was corrected when production re-implemented the installation of the junction box for the air conditioner “prep wire” for Basecamps manufactured without the optional rooftop air conditioner.
