Production Dates : SEP 14, 2020 – MAY 11, 2023 Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : The ball stud may separate from the lower control arm. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : If the ball stud were to separate from the lower control arm, a partial loss of steering may result. A loss of steering could lead to loss of control of the vehicle and an increased risk of occupant injury. No reported associated injuries on this claim; no other similar claims. 26 April 2023, all inventory of affected part numbers blocked from additional sales. May 2023 – July 2023, dynamic testing of balljoint and interfaces to salvage and new OEM parts for application vehicle. June 2023, issue return request of customer inventory for rework with new fastener. September is first receipt of replacement fastener with larger diameter flange. 27 September, 2023, Material Review Board meeting to review collected data. The Board determined the potential for a defect and safety risks were present. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Dorman will notify owners, a simple diagnostic can be performed to determine if they are impacted by this recall. Dorman will provide a replacement OEM-spec ball joint nut, free of charge. The replacement should take 15 minutes, by a skilled service technician. A requested labor refund check will be processed and mailed to the consumer upon reciept of proof of payment. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy nut will feature a wide flange which is similar to OEM fastener to extend beyond the insert sleeve of control arm assembly on Acura TL applications. (No sleeve in control arm on Honda applications) Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : All corrected product and new production with revised fastener have been made available under part number BJ59115 since June 2023.
