Address : 3501 CR 6 East Elkhart Indiana Country : United States Chronology : September 18, 2023 an internal communication was received from our Engineering Motorized Division informing the Jayco compliance team that there were certain 2024 Jayco Precept and Entegra Coach vision XL Class A motorhomes built with a cassette window shade that obstructs the opening of the emergency egress window located at the passenger side rear of the motorhome. September 18, 2023 Members of the Warranty Incident Review Committee (WIRC) discussed this incident and elevated to the Corrective and Preventive Action Committee (CPAC). September 20, 2023 CPAC met to discuss this incident and elevated this incident to the Safety Steering Committee (SSC). September 27, 2023 SSC met and voted that a safety recall was appropriate for this incident. Jayco Inc. has not received any warranty claims for this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Dealer will inspect for a cassette window shade that obstructs the emergency egress window located at the passenger side rear of the motorhome. If there is a cassette window shade at that location the dealer will replace it with a new standard wood valance and shade that will not obstruct the emergency egress window. Repairs made prior to the recall will be reimbursed in accordance with our Recall Reimbursement Plan on file with NHTSA. Jayco will notify affected retail owners and dealers. Tools & Supplies: Screwgun with Square bit & Phillips bit EGRESS WINDOW VALANCE/SHADE INSPECTION 1. Proceed to the instructions if the egress window has a cassette shade as shown in Figure 1. EGRESS WINDOW VALANCE/SHADE REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS 1. Shade Prep: Using a screwgun with square bit, secure the shade to the wooden valance assembly – three locations. NOTE: the shade should be centered on the wooden valance assembly – approximately 1-1/2” from each end. With a screwgun and phillips bit, locate and remove the (3) fasteners securing the cassette window shade (Fig. 2) to the window track. NOTE: The fastener will need to be completely removed. An additional screwdriver may be needed. (Fig. 4) b. Open the window and lock into the open position. (Fig. 5) c. Remove the cassette shade: Push out the lower corner, pull down on the upper corner and slide the shade out of the window track. (Fig. 6) 3. Install the wooden valance assembly with shade. a. With a screwgun and square bit, secure each end of the wooden valance assembly with a 2-1/2” screw – through the 1×1. (Fig. 8) 4. Verify the shade moves freely to the Up and Down positions. (Fig. 9) Jayco’s sole obligation under our limited warranty is to repair or replace defective materials and/or workmanship deemed our responsibility as determined by Jayco in our sole discretion. Jayco reserves the right to use new and/or remanufactured parts or materials of similar quality to complete any work, and to make parts and/or design changes as appropriate without notice to anyone. Jayco designs and/or materials changes are done without obligation to incorporate such changes in previously manufactured product.
