Loss of Control from Reversed Brake Connections
Incorrectly installed ABS valves and wheel speed sensors can cause a wheel lockup or loss of vehicle control during ABS braking, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Lion Electric Company (Lion Electric) is recalling certain 2024-2025 LionC School Buses. The anti-lock brake system (ABS) pneumatic valve connections and rear wheel speed sensors may be installed incorrectly.
Remedy
Lion Electric will correct the brake connections, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 12, 2023. Owners may contact Lion Electric customer service at 1-855-546-6706. Lion Electric’s number for this recall is R2023-008.

Chronology :
– Early May 2023: First reported cases of rear wheel lockup in hard braking situation. An investigation was opened.
– End of May 2023: The problem of inverted connections on the ABS modulators valves was discovered. The problem was observed on two different buses.
-Early September 2023: The inverted connection of the rear wheel speed sensor was found on the two same buses.
– October 16, 2023: Confirmation that the connection errors of the ABS system of the LionC full-air represent a defect regarding the Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations and approval of the recall proposal by Lion Electric’s Safety Committee.
– To this day, no warranty claims were raised by the customers related to this issue.

FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Reverse connections of pneumatic valves and rear wheel speed sensors can make the vehicle unstable, increase air consumption and lead to one of the rear wheels locking up when the ABS system is activated. The precaution is to contact Lion Electric if any anomaly is detected or suspected in the braking system of the vehicle. Lion Electric will then ask the customer to contact Lion Electric to determine a date of intervention where a team of technicians will be dispatched to correct the ABS system connections. All costs will be covered by the Lion Electric Company under the warranty program. Each customer who has already paid to have their vehicle repaired for this defect may be eligible for reimbursement of the charges paid for the repair or replacement, as applicable. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : NR Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The assembly procedure was updated on August 15th, 2023, to precise the ABS connections. A functional test was also implemented on August 16th at the pre-delivery inspection to validate that the system is connected adequately.
