Jayco matched those VIN numbers to our production records. Production Dates : MAY 08, 2023 – AUG 08, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : 1F66F5DN6P0A01825 End : 1F65F5DN6P0A02243 ✔ Not sequential Description of Noncompliance : Description of the Noncompliance : Ford Motor Company reported to Jayco Inc. that they are recalling certain 2023 F-53 vehicles. Affected vehicles have Smart Data Link Connector modules that may have been exposed to moisture, potentially leading to corrosion in the module, connector and wire harness. The resulting corrosion may interfere with the vehicle’s Controller Area Network (CAN) communication. As a result, the Instrument Panel Cluster may be inoperative when installed by the vehicle up fitter or other vehicle modifier. FMVSS 1 : 101 – Control and displays FMVSS 2 : 105 – Hydraulic and electric brake systems Description of the Safety Risk : An inoperative Instrument Panel Cluster does not provide safety-related information to the driver and increases the risk of a crash. Description of the Cause : During a rework procedure on the stripped chassis units, a protective bag was removed from the Smart Data Link Connector module to access the On Board Diagnostic port. After completion of the rework procedure, the bag was not properly reinstalled thereby leaving the module exposed to the elements. August 8, 2023 Jayco compliance received from Ford Motor Company the Compliance Recall Notice 23C24 / NHTSA Recall 23V510. Remedy parts were not available. August 14, 2023 Jayco’s Warranty Incident Review Committee (WIRC) reviewed the incident and elevated it to Corrective Preventive Action Committee (CPAC). On August 16, 2023 (CPAC) decided to elevate the incident to the Safety Steering Committee (SSC) once the remedy was available and the Ford recall became active. October 31, 2023, Ford notified Jayco that remedy and parts are available. On November 10, 2023 SSC voted to proceed with a Ford pass through chassis recall. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-771 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have their SDLC module replaced and to splice in a new wire harness connector. An inspection of the wire harness will also be performed and if corrosion is found past the point of the connector splice, the entire wire harness will be replaced. There will be no charge for this service. Ford provided the general reimbursement plan for the cost of remedies paid for by vehicle owners prior to notification of a safety recall in May 2023. The ending date for reimbursement eligibility is estimated to be September 30, 2024. Ford will forward a copy of the notification letters to dealers to the agency when available. Ford Motor Company will be reporting the quarterly completion rates to NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The new SDLC, wire harness and connector will be free of corrosion.
