Summary
Spektrum Brakes LLC (Spektrum) is recalling certain Dynamic Friction R1 brake rotors, part number xxx-03054+kits. The hub of the front brake rotor can fracture and cause a loss of braking ability.
Remedy
Spektrum will replace the brake rotor, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 10, 2024. Owners may contact Spektrum customer service at 1-714-777-2323.

Chronology :
A mechanic called the company’s sales representative to identify a failure in a brake rotor. The company instituted an investigation and found that the edge code on the rotor came from one of the company’s suppliers. The company immediately notified its distributors to stop distribution of the product. The company removed product from its inventory to take the measurements of the product as compared to the company’s specifications. The company’s investigation ultimately concluded that the manufacturing of the brake rotor that did not confirm to the company’s specifications. After completing its investigation and preparing to conduct a recall notification, the company filed this Part 573 report with NHTSA.

Descriptive Information : Based on a reported failure in a brake rotor from a mechanic, the company instituted an investigation and found that the edge code on the affected rotor came from one particualar suppliers and batch code. The company immediately notified its distributors to stop distribution of the product. The company removed product from its inventory to take the measurements of the product as compared to the company’s specifications. The company’s investigation ultimately concluded that the manufacturing of the brake rotor that did not confirm to the company’s specifications. Each brake rotor has a part number, a vendor code, and a batch order number stamped along the metal side edge of the brake rotor so that affected parts are easily distinguished. Description of the Defect : The hub of the brake rotor can fracture under certain conditions.

Description of the Safety Risk : The parts are used on the front brake axles only. If the affected part factures, there may be a decrease in braking performance, with more distance required to completely stop the vehicle. The potential decrease in braking performance is indeterminate but might contribute to the possibility of a crash. If the

Description of the Cause : Heat dam thickness is below the company’s stated specifications. Identification of Any Warning
that can Occur : Rotors covered by this recall might fracture at the hub of the brake rotor under certain conditions. If the casting fractures, the driver may notice a rattle or clunking noise coming from the front wheel area. Each brake rotor has a part number, a vendor code, and a batch order number stamped along the metal side edge of the brake rotor.
All affected part numbers with the affected vendor and batch edge code have been removed from the company’s inventory. For all new production, the company has implemented a new process that requires its suppliers to measure the dimensions of the affected area and to document their review. The company has also implemented a secondary measurement confirmation process internally. Recall Schedule :
