Summary
Pierce Manufacturing (Pierce) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Commercial Chassis equipped with Hercules HC 1.7 multiplex nodes. In the event of a short circuit or wiring failure, the firmware in the node may fail to shut off the output pin, resulting in overloaded electrical circuits.
Remedy
Weldon will update the firmware, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Pierce customer service at 1-888-974-3723. Pierce’s number for this recall is 74B334.

January 24, 2024 Weldon makes the determination to conduct a recall and issue a firmware update to remedy the issue. NHTSA subsequently assigns recall 24E-006.
February 15, 2024. Pierce receives notice from Weldon of TSB 24-002D which is their communication of recall 24E-006 to OEM’s. Pierce commences its search to understand the population of affected trucks.
February 22, 2024 Pierce completes its search and determines that while most affected trucks have not left its control (and will be quarantined so the remedy can be applied), a population has shipped and a corresponding recall is to be filed.

Description of Remedy Program : Pursuant to information supplied by Weldon, update the installed
firmware in the node using an updater application that can be downloaded from the company website. The same updater used in Akron TSB 23-001 (NHTSA 23E084) is used to update the firmware in the affected devices.
The Service provider will be compensated so there is no cost to vehicle owner for this firmware update. Nothing needs to be removed from the truck, this is a firmware update accomplished by plugging into the truck to upload the latest firmware.
