Descriptive Information : The recall population includes certain Model Year 2022, 2023, and 2024 R1T and R1S vehicles that may have been serviced in such a way that the upper B pillar trim panel on R1Ts, and upper B and/or C pillar trim panel on R1Ss does not meet current production specifications. The suspect period began on October 20, 2021, when Rivian started to service vehicles incorrectly and ended on May 31, 2024, when Rivian stopped servicing vehicles incorrectly. That population was determined using manufacturing records. Similar R1T vehicles not included in this recall have never had upper B pillar trim service conducted; similar R1S vehicles not included in this recall have never had upper B and/or C pillar trim service conducted; or the R1T and R1S vehicles that had upper B and/or C pillar trim panel service, were confirmed to have had the part(s) correctly replaced during that service.

Description of the Defect : Rivian has determined that during service of certain model year 2022, 2023, and 2024 R1T and R1S vehicles the upper pillar trim panel(s) may have been removed and then reused instead of being removed and replaced with a brand- new component. Removal and reuse may result in damage to the attachment clip(s) that secure the trim panel to the pillar. For R1T only the upper B-pillars are potentially impacted. For R1S the upper B and/or C-pillars are potentially impacted.

On April 18, 2024, the Rivian Field Performance Engineering team was made aware that upper B and/or C trim pillar panels were potentially being reused, instead of replaced, during service and an investigation began.� From April 18, 2024, to May 30, 2024, Rivian conducted the investigation and identified the potentially affected vehicles. On May 30, 2024, Rivian, out of an abundance of caution, determined that a safety-related defect may exist related to this matter. As of the date of this filing, Rivian is not aware of any accidents, injuries, warranty claims, or field reports related to this issue in any market. Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Rivian will remove the potentially affected pillar trim panel(s) and replace
them with new parts.
Rivian is committed to reimbursing owners for previous out-of-pocket repairs according to the plan submitted to the agency on May 10, 2022; however, systems affected by this recall are covered under Rivian’s new vehicle limited warranties. Rivian only began releasing vehicles to customers at the end of 2021. As no owners of these vehicles would have reached the end of the warranty period and therefore not incurred expenses for the warranted repair as a result of this condition, no notification regarding reimbursement under section 577.11 is necessary. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Rivian has a policy and practice of reimbursing owners who have paid for a repair that subsequently becomes the subject of a field action. To ensure consistency, Rivian, as part of the owner letter, will request that customers send the original receipt and/or other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the expense.
The remedy component will be a brand-new pillar trim panel that has not potentially been damaged by reuse.

As a direct-to consumer manufacturer, Rivian owns and operates all of the Company’s sales and service operations. As all “dealers” are Rivian owned entities, notification will be through internal means to our licensed store and service operations addressing this recall on or before the date set forth in this response.
