Improperly Crimped Battery Cable Ends

Summary
Genie Industries, Inc. (Genie) is recalling certain 2019 TZ-34 and TZ-50 trailer-mounted aerial devices. The battery cable ends at the quick disconnect may have been improperly crimped, resulting in possible excessive heat build-up of the conductor.
Remedy
Genie will notify owners and provide a replacement quick disconnect battery cable. The recall began May 23, 2019. Owners may contact Genie customer service at 1-800-536-1800. Genie’s number for this recall is 190009.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Terex has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on the model(s) with serial numbers listed above.
The reason for this recall….
You are receiving this bulletin because you are the owner of an affected machine.
Genie has determined that machines referenced above may have been manufactured with under crimped battery cables at the location of the machine’s quick disconnect. An under crimped battery cable can cause excessive heat build-up or exposure of the conductor resulting in a machine fire.
Continued use Instructions:
All machine operators and users must be notified of these continued use requirements.
The machine may remain in service until this Important Safety Recall is completed, provided that the following conditions are observed.
- Do not pull the cables when disconnecting the battery cable assembly. Pull from the quick disconnect casing instead.
- Inspect for damage (dis-coloration / deformation) around the quick disconnect area as part of the pre-operation inspection. If damage is observed, remove the machine from service. The machine may only be returned to service after this Safety Notice is completed.

This Important Safety Recall requires replacement of the Quick Disconnect Battery Cables installed on all affected units.
- Locate the affected machines referenced above within your fleet.
- Order a replacement Quick Disconnect Battery Cable Kit for your trailer unit.

Completion of this Important Safety Recall must take place as soon as possible, but no later than 30 days from receipt of the kit.
- Fill out and sign the completion form included in this Notice or attached to the installation instructions and retum to Terex AWP Warranty Department or file a warranty claim to verify that this Important Safety Recall is completed.
- Return the machine to service.
