Summary
Foretravel, Inc. (Foretravel) is recalling certain 2020 Realm and iH45 vehicles built on a Spartan chassis. The brake relay valve may have an air flow restriction, which may result in an extended stopping distance. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, “Air Brake Systems.”
Remedy
Foretravel will notify owners, and Spartan dealers will inspect and replace the valves, free of charge. The recall began December 16, 2019. Owners may contact Foretravel customer service at 1-800-955-6226.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Thoroughly review entire service bulletin before starting work. If there are questions or concerns with steps defined in this service bulletin, contact Spartan Motors USA, Inc. Customer & Product Support Group.
All applicable industry safety standards must be followed when performing work identified in this procedure.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS:
- Tilt Firetruck cab. Make sure of the following before tilting cab:
- Secure all items in cab
- Check for clearances around cab
- Make sure cab is tilted high enough to engage safety latch
- Locate relay valve located behind drive side step well. Refer to FIG. 2-1.
FIG. 2-1
- Remove relay valve. Be sure to mark all hoses for reinstallation.
- Install new relay valve per Diagram 1.

- Torque 5/16-18 nuts to 119 lbf-in.
- Refer to Appendix A for fitting installation instructions.

Dear Foretravel Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety act.
Foretravel Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exist in certain Realm and IH45 motor home chassis built between December 7, 2018 and March 5, 2019 by Spartan Motors.
Please note: The Vehicle Identification Number that may be affected by this recall is located at the top of this letter.
What is the defect?
Foretravel has been notified by Spartan Motors that vehicles affected by this recall may be equipped with brake relay valves in which an orifice within the valve may be restricted inhibiting air flow. The restriction of air flow can cause the affected vehicles to fail to comply with the service brake application timing requirements S5.3.3.1 (a) With an initial service reservoir system air pressure of 100 psi, the air pressure in each brake chamber shall, when measured from the first movement of the service brake control, reach 60 psi in not more than 0.45 second in the case of trucks and buses. Depending on the amount of restriction, an increase in the application of the se1vice brakes may result in an increase in stopping distance which may result in a crash.
Corrective Action
Foretravel will issue owner and dealer notifications to have the valve inspected and if needed, replaced at no charge to you, the vehicle owner. All vehicles affected by this recall are within their warranty period and any identified non-conforming parts would be replaced through Warranty.

Please contact Foretravel Inc. at 1-800-955-6226 opt 3 to locate a qualified se1v ice center near you. Steps will be taken to ensure the recall is performed at the nearest se1vice center.
Reimbursement
The labor time necessary to perform this service correction is approximately 2 hours for removal and replacement. If you had this repair performed before you received this letter, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of the problem associated with this recall.
