Summary
Fontaine Modification (Fontaine) is recalling certain 2016-2020 Autohaulers built on Freightliner
114SD chassis. Movement of the cab during operation may cause the battery cable to contact the bottom of the cab, possibly damaging the cable.
Remedy
Fontaine will notify owners, and dealers will ensure that the cable cannot be damaged, free of charge. The recall began November 4, 2020. Owners may contact Fontaine customer service at 1-800-366-8246.

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FOR CAMPAIGN # 20V‐525
Dear Freightliner 114SD Auto‐hauler Truck Owner,
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Fontaine Modification Company (“Fontaine”) has determined that certain 2016‐21 Freightliner 114SD trucks converted by Fontaine to Auto‐hauler between March 05, 2015 and April 22, 2020 may have a Safety Defect involving the positioning of the standoff brackets holding the positive battery cable under the cab. Damage to the cable can result in an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire.

Your Freightliner 114SD Autohauler Truck is being recalled.
If the VIN of your truck is on the enclosed list, you need to respond to this recall by contacting Fontaine Modification at 1‐800‐366‐8246.
If the VIN of your truck is not on the enclosed list, then no action is required on your part.
On subject vehicles, the OEM standoff brackets may not have been repositioned correctly and in some circumstances can cause the positive battery cable to come into contact with the bottom of the cab.
To remedy this issue, Fontaine is requesting that the three standoff brackets be inspected to ensure that they have been properly repositioned to allow the required clearance between the cab and positive battery cable. Once the location of the standoff brackets has been verified, if the required clearance does NOT exist between the bottom of the cab and the battery cable, Fontaine will ship a replacement bracket parts kit. If the standoff brackets do provide for the required clearance, we ask that you contact Fontaine and provide Fontaine with the corresponding VIN. Once you as the registered owner or end user have received a parts kit, you should contact your nearest Freightliner dealer or authorized service facility (including your own maintenance shop) to have the parts installed at no charge to you. Fontaine Modification will pay up to 3.0 hours to install the parts.
This issue is considered a Safety Defect and requires that each affected vehicle be inspected. When you receive this notification, contact Fontaine Modification at 1‐800‐366‐8246 to acquire an inspection process and authorization number. Fontaine will pay up to 0.5 hours of labor to perform the initial inspection.
When the call is made to Fontaine to acquire the inspection process and authorization number, Fontaine will request ship to information to facilitate shipment of a replacement bracket parts kit, if required and when the parts become available, directly to you as the registered owner or end user.
