Incorporated (PACCAR
) is recalling certain 2016-2021 Kenworth
T680 trucks equipped with a 2.1m Cab and WABCO 6S/6M ABS brake system with drum brakes. The brake systems were manufactured with a standard rear-brake ABS modulator valve instead of a quick release valve, which may exceed the intended service-brake release timing. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, “Air Brake Systems.”
Remedy
PACCAR
will notify owners, and dealers will replace the standard rear-brake, ABS modulator valve with a quick release valve, free of charge. The recall began November 30, 2020. Owners may contact PACCAR
customer service at 1-425-828-5888. PACCAR

Introduction
Certain 2.1m vehicles with WABCO 6S/6M ABS brake systems and drum brakes may have been manufactured with a standard, rear brake, ABS modulator valve instead of a quick release, rear brake, ABS modulator valve. This may cause the vehicles to exceed service brake release timing performance requirements, increasing the risk of a crash. These vehicles fail to comply with FMVSS 121, section S5.3.4 Brake Release Time.
This bulletin will be updated when a repair path is available.
Situation
1436 (1416 U.S. and 20 Canada) T680 chassis model year 2016-2021 built from 03/02/2015 through 02/27/2020 equipped with WABCO 6S/6M ABS brake system.
It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to sell or lease new vehicles covered by this recall until the defect or noncompliance has been corrected.

1. Remove the two relay valves.
2. Transfer the fittings from the removed relay valves to the new relay valves.
- Use Loctite 567 or equivalent to seal the fitting threads
- Torque the fittings to 15-22 lb-ft (20-30 Nm)
3. Install the new relay valves.
4. If compression fittings or tubing were damaged during removal of the relay valves,
replace them as appropriate.

Truck Company has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain model year 2016-2021 T680
vehicles manufactured from 03/02/2015 through 02/27/2020 equipped with 6S/6M ABS brake system with drum brakes. The brake
systems were manufactured with standard rear-brake ABS modulator valves instead of quick release valves, which may exceed the
intended service-brake release timing. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
Standard number 121, “Air Brake Systems.” This results in longer than expected service-brake release timing, which may lengthen
vehicle stopping distance, increasing the risk of a crash.
The problem is… Incorrect ABS modulator valve is installed.

There is no time or mileage limit for this recall. Kenworth
will pay for parts at dealer net plus
applicable mark-up and labor:
2.0 hours labor to replace the ABS modulator valves. File a long form claim.
Time beyond 2.0 hours must be explained in the claim. A quick claim for standard
labor must be filed first.
Take-Off Parts Disposition: Destroy take-off parts 30 days after claim is paid
