Illuminated Assist Handle May Melt

Summary

Triple E Recreational Vehicles (Triple E) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Unity U24IB, U24TB, U24RL, Wonder W24RL, and W24RTB vehicles. The 12-volt wire for the illuminated assist handle is routed too close to the refrigerator exhaust, which could melt the wire and blow the fuse.

 

Remedy

Dealers will install foil tape over the 12-volt wire, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 14, 2021. Owners may contact Triple E customer service at 1-877-992-9906. Triple E’s number for this recall is CA#9949-1.

Tools Needed:
1. Step Ladder
2. #2 Robertson (square drive) screwdriver

Provided in kit:
1. 75mm (3 inches) of Foil Tape 2. Repair Instructions.

 

Remove the #8 screw from the top corner of the upper fridge cover using a #2 Robertson bit put aside for later.

 

Lift both tabs up and remove vent by pulling on the left side of the vent and then sliding it out. Set vent aside.

 

Look down the vent and locate the entry assist handle 12V wire routed close to the Fridge exhaust flue.

If Fridge was running, allow chamber and exhaust to cool to touch before moving forward!

 

Reach in and with your hand, move the wire away from the exhaust flue by pulling from the outer wall.

CAUTION!!!

Do not pull extra wire from the fridge side or you will dislodge the seal around the wire. If seal is damaged, the fridge may need to be removed to reseal the wire.

 

Remove the backing from the foil tape and secure the wire against the outer wall, away from the fridge flue.

There should be a minimum of 25mm (1 inch) space between the flue and the wire.

 

Reinsert the vent cover at an angle with the front of the vent first then the back.
The tabs on the vent frame need to line up with the slots in the cover. Failure to engage the clips in the vent can allow it to be caught by wind when driving causing a failure.

 

Push both sliding clips down and fasten the vent cover through the original hole with the original screw.

Triple E Recreational Vehicles has decided that a defect exists in certain 2020 & 2021 Unity (U24RL / U24IB / U24TB) & Wonder (W24RL / W24RTB) motorhomes manufactured between December 15, 2019 to August 5, 2021.

 

Description of Defect: 

The illuminated assist handle 12V wire may come in contact with the fridge exhaust flue, which could cause the fuse to blow, possibly causing a fire and bodily injury.

 

To Have This Modification Performed: 

We request your assistance to have this safety issue corrected. Please follow the included SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) to install the foil tape to secure the 12V wire against the outer wall. For reimbursement submit a warranty application for

To Have This Modification Performed:

Please contact your selling dealer or a RV service center to perform this recall remedy. The time needed to perform the recall is approximately 10 minutes. If you choose to have this Recall performed by a service center other than your dealer, prior authorization is required. This repair will be done at no cost to the owner.

 

If you had this repair performed before you received this letter, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a prenotification remedy of the problem associated with this recall.
