Summary
Sutphen Corporation (Sutphen) is recalling one 2017 Fire Truck and one 2020 Fire Truck, equipped with Code 3
7×9 Stop-Tail-Turn Reverse All-in-One LED lights. The lights may be too bright, exceeding the maximum light output allowed which may adversely affect the vision of drivers. As such, these vehicle fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
Sutphen assisted the owners in obtaining filter kits from the light manufacturer, free of charge. Both affected vehicles have been remedied and therefore no owner letters will be mailed. Owners may contact Sutphen customer service at 1-614-889-1005.

Chronology :
March 30 and 31, 2020 โ Photometry testing was conducted in connection with a change in suppliers for the PCB assembly used in the subject lamps. This testing showed elevated intensity levels in one of the tested lamps.
May โ June, 2020 โ The company conducted an investigation into the production and design history of the lamp, obtained additional samples for testing, and, on June 14 and 15, 2020, conducted additional photometry tests on sample lamps.
June 15, 2020 โ Based upon the testing and other information developed during the investigation, company management decided that a noncompliance with FMVSS 108 exists within the subject population.
There have been no known complaints, accidents or injuries related to this noncompliance.
