Belt separation could lead to loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary

Sailun Tire Americas, Inc. (Sailun) is recalling certain Sailun, RoadX, Blacklion, Blackhawk, and Ironhead brand tires, sizes ST235/80R16 and ST235/85R16 with DOT codes 2020 through 4120. Due to a manufacturing issue, the tires may experience a belt separation.

 

Remedy

Sailun will replace the tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in December 2021. Owners may contact Sailun customer service at 1-844-281-9696.

Subject: Important Recall Notice

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

 

Sailun Tire Americas has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Sailun Tire America (STA) Specialty Trailer (ST) tires brands.  Accordingly, a voluntary recall is being initiated on the affected brands and sizes.

 

The defect is associated with a steel belt package design change that could contribute to a tread belt separation or tread delamination, increasing the risk of a crash. Tire owners can help reduce the associated risk by referring to their trailer/RV placard and adhering to the prescribed air pressure and weight limitations of the vehicle. Underinflation and overloading of the tires as well as excessive speed are also contributing factors to tire failure.

 

It has been determined that 84,351 tires produced from May 11, 2020 to October 11, 2020 (DOT date range identified by factory code 1YJ and the last four digits of the DOT code are: 2020 – 4120) are in the affected range.

 

Please refer to the table on page 2 of this notice to identify if your tire(s) is in the affected date range. The date of manufacture (last four characters in the DOT Code) can be found molded onto the tire near the bead. For the affected lot(s) the plant code (first three characters in the DOT Code) will be 1YJ and the last four characters will be the date code range (2020 – 4120), please see the example below.

What Should You Do?

If you own any of the above listed tires that fall within the listed factory and DOT Code production range, please visit the closest tire dealer of the above listed brands, along with this notice, and we will replace the tires(s) with the same brand or substantially similar brand at no cost to you. STA will also cover the costs to mount and balance the tires.

This campaign will expire 180 days after receipt of this letter, so it is important that you act as soon as possible to determine whether your tires are covered by this campaign. If at the end of this  campaign you experience a tire failure please follow the regular warranty policy applicable to your brand. If you’ve had your tires replaced before you received this letter, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost. If you have any questions whether your tires are covered by this notice, or problems obtaining the needed replacement, or are seeking reimbursement, please contact Sailun Tire Americas at 1-844-2819696.

Federal law requires that any vehicle leaser receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee by First Class Mail within ten days of your receipt of this notice.
