Summary
Bentley
Motors, Inc. (Bentley
) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Continental
GT Convertible, Continental
GT, and 2021-2022 Flying Spur vehicles. The front seat belt assemblies may have been incorrectly installed, resulting in the front passenger seat missing the automatic locking retractor (ALR). As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.”
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the affected seat belt, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 22, 2022. Owners may contact Bentley
customer service at 1-800-777-6923. Bentley
’s number for this recall is RE22/08 (RC34).
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
Bentley
has discovered that incorrect front passenger seat belt assemblies without an automatic locking retractor (ALR) function may have been installed to specific vehicles during the production process. If the incorrect front passenger seat belt assemblies without an automatic locking retractor (ALR) function have been installed, the child restraint system may not be secured properly when fitting the child restraint system solely with the seat belt. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208 (FMVSS208), “Occupant Crash Protection”. This issue does not impact the compliance or functionality of the seat belt assemblies with respect to their normal use by adult passengers or use of the ISOFIX / LATCH system to secure child restraint seats.
Bentley
Motors, Inc. is not aware of any occurrences or accidents relating to this on customer vehicles, but is undertaking this action as a precautionary measure.
There are 25 affected vehicles in the US and 2 in Canada. Attached is a Bentley
Technical Product Information (TPI) document with the affected VIN’s, and details the procedure which must be followed exactly.
Technical background
Checks are required to confirm if the correct front seat belt assemblies have been installed during the production process
In the event that an incorrect assembly has been installed the seat belt may not retain a child seat
within the passenger seat as intended when using the Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) function
Passenger seat belt
The seat belt fitted could be without the Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) function and/or incorrect part number
Drivers seat belt
The seat belt fitted could be with the Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) function and/or incorrect part number
Questions and answers
What is the specific issue with the affected vehicles?
Bentley
has discovered that incorrect front passenger seat belt assemblies without an automatic locking retractor (ALR) function may have been installed to specific vehicles during the production process
What repercussions does the fault have?
If the incorrect front passenger seat belt assemblies without an automatic locking retractor (ALR) function have been installed, the child restraint system may not be secured properly when fitting the child restraint system solely with the seat belt. In addition to the potential safety risk, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208 (FMVSS208), “Occupant Crash Protection”. This issue does not impact the compliance or functionality of the seat belt assemblies with respect to their normal use by adult passengers, or use of the ISOFIX / LATCH system to secure child restraint seats.
Which vehicles are affected?
This issue only potentially affects specific Continental
GT, GT Convertible and Flying Spur vehicles built between June 2018 and October 2021. Are all models affected by the fault?
No, this issue only affects a specific number of Continental
and Flying Spur vehicles only. The affected vehicles have been identified using supplier and manufacturing records. Vehicles not included in this recall have been fitted with the correct specification seat belts.
Can customers continue to drive the cars?
Yes, however, we encourage customers to arrange an appointment with their retailer as soon as possible. If using the retractor locking mechanism to secure a child seat
in the vehicle, we recommend fitting the child seat
on an outer, rear seat of the vehicle until the recall action has been carried out. This issue does not impact the compliance or functionality of the seat belt assemblies with respect to their normal use by adult passengers or use of the ISOFIX / LATCH system to secure child restraint seats.
What is the fix?
Bentley
authorised retailers will inspect the affected front seat belt assemblies and, if necessary, replace one or both affected seat belts free of charge. If a seat belt requires replacing, it will take approximately one hour per seat belt to complete.
Do I have to make an appointment?
Yes, that’s important. Please contact your retailer immediately.

- UPGRADE OF NT604 - 5 ESSENTIAL RESET SERVICES, BRING 1000+ OF SHOP SERVICES HOME: Most 4-system car scanners stop at reading codes. The NT614 Elite obd2 scanner goes further by supporting 5 commonly used maintenance resets that repair shops often charge hundreds for: ABS Bleeding, EPB Reset, Oil Reset, SAS Calibration, Throttle Relearn. Just one brake service can offset the c-ost of the tool
- 15 SECONDS FAST DIAGNOSIS, SMART AUTOVIN, PLUG & PLAY: Simply plug into the OBD2 port, one click AUTOVIN, the code reader automatically retrieves your VIN and enters diagnostic mode in about 15 seconds. No complicated setup required. Instantly identify your vehicle and access the relevant systems. Whether you're a DIY car owner, beginner, or mechanic, you can quickly locate problems and make informed repair decisions. (NOTE: 1.A few cars need to manually enter the VIN. 2.Vehicles with CAN protocol support fast diagnosis in 15 seconds)
- PERFORM ABS BLEEDING AT HOME – RESTORE BRAKE PEDAL FEEL: After replacing brake pads, calipers, or brake fluid
, air can enter the brake system, causing a soft or sinking brake pedal and longer stopping distance. The NT614 Elite code reader for cars and trucks supports ABS Bleeding, helping remove trapped air from the brake lines and restore proper brake pressure. Maintain safer braking performance without a shop visit. (NOTE: A few cars don't support ABS Bleeding function, pls check it before purchase) - LIVE DATA GRAPHING + BUILT-IN DTC LIBRARY + LIFETIME WiFi UPDATES: Not sure what a fault code means or how your sensors are performing? The NT614 Elite scanner for car displays real-time live data (RPM, speed, O2 sensors, transmission temp, and more) in easy-to-read graphs, helping you quickly spot abnormal fluctuations. The built-in DTC library explains trouble codes directly on screen-no phone or internet search required. Motors Limited Crewe or through your regional Bentley
parts distribution centre Parts despatch control Not applicable Questions and answers What is the specific issue with the affected vehicles? Bentley
has discovered that incorrect front passenger seat belt assemblies without an automatic locking retractor (ALR) function may have been installed to specific vehicles during the production process What repercussions does the fault have?
Repair instructions Notes Technical background Checks are required to confirm if the correct front seat belt assemblies have been installed during the production process In the event that an incorrect assembly has been installed the seat belt may not retain a child seat
within the passenger seat as intended when using the Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) function Passenger seat belt The seat belt fitted could be without the Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) function and/or incorrect part number Drivers seat belt The seat belt fitted could be with the Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) function and/or incorrect part number Check If the vehicle is not already listed as repaired in the ‘Repair history’ section of Elsa Pro, check for the presence of the Recall campaign ‘identification’ mark (Refer to the Identification section) In the event that the Recall campaign has not been applied, please carry out the required work in accordance with these instructions.
