) is recalling certain 2022 Speed Triple RS and Speed Triple RR motorcycles. The rear brake disc bolts may loosen.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the rear brake disc bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 27, 2022. Owners may contact Triumph
customer service at 1-678-854-2010. Triumph

Background Information
Internal investigations have identified the requirement for the encapsulated rear brake disc fixings to be replaced with plain fixings with liquid thread lock on the above models.
Dealers are requested to change the rear brake disc fixings as described in the procedure below.

Dealers are to prioritise repair of customer owned motorcycles before any unsold motorcycles.

Replace the Rear Brake Disc Fixings
Warning
Make sure the motorcycle is stabilised and adequately supported.
A correctly supported motorcycle will help prevent it from falling.
An unstable motorcycle may fall, causing injury to the operator or damage to the motorcycle.
Warning
If the engine has recently been running, the exhaust components may be hot to the touch. Contact with the hot components may cause damage to exposed skin. To avoid skin damage, always allow the hot parts to cool before working on the exhaust system.
1. Remove the exhaust silencer as described in the Service Manual. Discard the lock nut. Retain and inspect the two gaskets for reuse.
2. Remove the rear wheel as described in the Service Manual.
3. Remove the cush drive carrier
as described in the Service Manual.
Warning
Do not allow a brake component to hang unsupported on the brake hose
or line.
Brake hoses or lines that are not supported may become damaged or bent.
Bent or damaged brake hoses or lines lead to reduced braking efficiency causing loss of motorcycle control and an accident.
4. Remove the fixings and position the rear brake caliper to one side.
Note:
5. Remove the rear axle shaft.
6. Remove and discard the four fixings and detach the pulser ring, noting the position of the alignment
dots for installation.
7. Detach the brake disc.
Note:
- Thoroughly clean the mating faces of the components prior to installation.
8. Clean the brake disc, pulser ring and rear axle shaft.
9. Fit the disc to the rear axle shaft.
10. Position the pulser ring to the brake disc making sure the alignment dots face away from the brake disc and the pulser ring is centrally aligned.
Caution
Using an internal thread repair tool, make sure the rear axle shaft internal threads of the brake disc fixing are cleaned and dried prior to installation of the new fixings. Do NOT use a tap as this may damage the threads.
Note:
- Following the fitment of the first brake disc fixing, the remaining fixings must be fitted and torqued within 10 minutes. Do not leave any longer in a partially assembled condition.
11. Apply a single line of ThreeBond 1375B thread lock to one of the fixings from the parts kit as shown. If ThreeBond 1375B is not available, a list of alternatives can be found in Appendix A.
Application of thread lock
12. Insert the fixing into the rear axle shaft to secure the pulser ring and brake disc assembly. Do not torque at this stage.
13. Repeat the thread lock application for the remaining three fixings from the parts kit and fit them to the rear axle shaft.
14. Tighten the new fixings to 22 Nm.
Note:
Support the rear axle shaft carefully to avoid damage to the disc or axle shaft threads.
15. Apply a thin smear of Castrol High Temperature grease to the rear axle shaft assembly in the area highlighted.
16. Refit the rear axle shaft.
17. Refit the rear brake caliper and tighten the fixings to 28 Nm.
18. Refit the cush drive carrier
as described in the Service Manual.
19. Refit the rear wheel as described in the Service Manual.
20. Refit the exhaust silencer as described in the Service Manual, using the new lock nut from the parts kit and, if serviceable, the two original exhaust gaskets.
21. Check that the rear brake operates correctly. Rectify as necessary.

Chronology :
During on going testing, Triumph
observed at 20,000 miles on one motorcycle one of the four retaining bolts used to fix the rear brake disc to the rear axle to be loosening. A subsequent investigation involving the supplier of the rear axle identified the root cause to be an incorrect thread form which subsequently failed to properly engage and activate the threadlocking compound supplied by the mating bolt on assembly by Triumph
. The date of test was 26th Oct 2021. Nil warranty claims, Nil field or service reports, Nil Death/Injuries.
