Triumph subsidiaries and distributors must instigate a Safety Recall Action in their country in accordance with the national recall code of practice. For vehicles in dealer stock, the safety recall MUST be actioned before delivery to the customer. Dealers are to prioritise repair of customer owned motorcycles before any unsold motorcycles. Genuine Parts Return Dealer to retain parts for 90 days. All parts must be stored in a secure, non-public accessed area and correctly identified with a completed warranty label. Thereafter the parts must be rendered unusable prior to scrapping. Other Instructions Once completed, please mark the Service Record Book that the requirements of this Safety Recall Action Notice have been complied with. Before returning the motorcycle to the customer, download the latest calibration to the engine electronic control module, chassis electronic control module (if fitted), keyless electronic control module (if fitted) and instruments (if applicable) using the current version of the Triumph diagnostic software. Replace the Rear Brake Disc Fixings Warning Make sure the motorcycle is stabilised and adequately supported. A correctly supported motorcycle will help prevent it from falling. An unstable motorcycle may fall, causing injury to the operator or damage to the motorcycle. Warning If the engine has recently been running, the exhaust components may be hot to the touch. Contact with the hot components may cause damage to exposed skin. To avoid skin damage, always allow the hot parts to cool before working on the exhaust system. 1. Remove the exhaust silencer as described in the Service Manual. Discard the lock nut. Retain and inspect the two gaskets for reuse. 2. Remove the rear wheel as described in the Service Manual. 3. Remove the cush drive carrier as described in the Service Manual. Safety Recall Action Notice SB596 3 of 7 Warning Do not allow a brake component to hang unsupported on the brake hose or line. Brake hoses or lines that are not supported may become damaged or bent. Bent or damaged brake hoses or lines lead to reduced braking efficiency causing loss of motorcycle control and an accident. 4. Clean the brake disc, pulser ring and rear axle shaft. 9. Fit the disc to the rear axle shaft. 10. Position the pulser ring to the brake disc making sure the alignment dots face away from the brake disc and the pulser ring is centrally aligned. Caution Using an internal thread repair tool, make sure the rear axle shaft internal threads of the brake disc fixing are cleaned and dried prior to installation of the new fixings. Do NOT use a tap as this may damage the threads. Note: • Following the fitment of the first brake disc fixing, the remaining fixings must be fitted and torqued within 10 minutes. Do not leave any longer in a partially assembled condition. 11. Apply a single line of ThreeBond 1375B thread lock to one of the fixings from the parts kit as shown. If ThreeBond 1375B is not available, a list of alternatives can be found in Appendix A. clby Application of thread lock 12. Insert the fixing into the rear axle shaft to secure the pulser ring and brake disc assembly. Do not torque at this stage. 13. Repeat the thread lock application for the remaining three fixings from the parts kit and fit them to the rear axle shaft. Safety Recall Action Notice SB596 5 of 7 14. Description of the Cause : An incorrect thread form in the rear axle fails to activate the thread locking compound delivered by the mating bolt. Ltd Address : No.115, Ren-Hua Road Ta Li, Taichung Foreign States 42881 Country : Taiwan, Province of China Chronology : During on going testing, Triumph observed at 20,000 miles on one motorcycle one of the four retaining bolts used to fix the rear brake disc to the rear axle to be loosening. A subsequent investigation involving the supplier of the rear axle identified the root cause to be an incorrect thread form which subsequently failed to properly engage and activate the threadlocking compound supplied by the mating bolt on assembly by Triumph. The date of test was 26th Oct 2021. Nil warranty claims, Nil field or service reports, Nil Death/ Injuries. 24th March 2022: Triumph Recall Committee agree to launch an in-service campaign. Pursuant to 49 CFR §577.11(e), Triumph requests that it be exempt from providing notification of a reimbursement plan. Any pre-notification product failure would have been addressed under the manufacturer’s limited warranty. Accordingly, no person would be eligible for reimbursement pursuant to §573.13.” How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The O/E bolt includes encapsulated thread locking compound whereas the remedy bolt will be supplied as a plain bolt.
